After an exciting two weeks, the Canadian U21 Netball Team has returned home to Canada from St Maarten, where they competed in the U21 AFNA Qualifying Tournament.
The members of the U21 team who represented Alberta are as follows: Kathryn Chehowy, Madison Milne-Ives, Charlotte Monaghan, Philipa Prevost-Jones, and Jessica Young. It was a very competitive tournament, with six games against each Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts, Grenada, Barbados, Argentina, and of course, St Maarten.
The tournament proved to be a great opportunity for players from several provinces to get to know one another and to play together rather than against one another. Throughout the tournament the team developed tremendously, which was personally recognized by one of the coaches from T&T, as well as the AFNA organizing committee during the closing ceremonies.
The girls fought hard, and although the Canadian team did not qualify to play in the World Championships in Botswana next July, the tournament proved to be an incredible learning experience for all involved. Congratulations to Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Grenada for qualifying to represent the Americas next year.
We are very proud of all of you and your hard work in preparation for this challenging event. Welcome home!
